Bio
John F Nicolai was born Oct 11, 1838, Rossdorf, Hessen, Germany to George Heinrich Nicolai and Anna Elisabeth Hein. He married Maria Sophia Richert 1856 in Germany. The couple came to the United States with three of their daughters and two of their sons in 1866. They traveled on the maiden voyage of the SS Deutschland 1866, from Bremen, Germany via Southampton, England to New York. They left Germany 10/14/1866 and arrived in New York 10/29/1866. The family settled in Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania in 11/1866, and moved to Nebraska in 1879. John was visiting his daughter in Pittsburgh, 1901 when he passed away. John Nicolai passed away, age 63, from cancer of the stomach, and died at 244 Spahr Street, Pittsburgh, PA, home of daughter, Lizzie Nicolai Raymond Schroth.
