Obituary The Hooper Sentinel May 13, 1998 Gus Kiihne Gustav "Gus" W. Kiihne, 92, of Hooper died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner. Gus was born on July 3, 1905, in Scribner to Reinhold and Rosina (Kurz) Kiihne. He attended Orchard schools. On June 3, 1930, he married Signe Jorgensen in Creighton. She died in 1979. They farmed in the Orchard area and later near West Point and Hooper. He also worked for the Dodge County Department of Roads. He retired in 1972. In 1982, Gus married Betty Kovar at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hooper and he remained living in Hooper until becoming a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner in February 1997. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hooper and a past member of the Lutheran Laymen's League. Survivors include his wife, Betty of Scribner, two sons, Ray and wife Margaret Kiihne of Winona, Mn., and Rev. Keith and wife Dorothy Kiihne of Norfolk; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife; a son Donald; three brothers; and six sisters. The funeral services well be held today (Wed., May 13) at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hooper. Rev. Carl Lehmann will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Hooper. Pallbearers will be grandsons Joseph, Donald, Paul, James, Robert, Mark and David Kiihne.
