Bio

A Granddaughters Reminiscence: Marvel Jaice Wendt. Born February 4th, 1936. The various titles that her loved one's gave her throughout her lifetime were: daughter, sister, mom, Grandma Hoover and Auntie Marvel. However, she wasn't simply a title, but rather a giver of unconditional love, a person who would rather please someone else before herself. She loved life and lived it to the fullest extent possible and made the wonderful memories that all of us are blessed to have. At a young age, Grandma displayed her love for family when she took the initiative to quite school and help support them a few years after her father passed away. She took a particular interest in her younger sister. As soon as pay-day came for grandma the two of them would head to the local grocery store to spoil Aunt Paula rotten. They also spent time together at the Capitol Theatre and the Cherry street dance hall. She was then married and blessed with two daughters, Grace and Delores. Shortly there after her life took a different path when her and her husband separated. She learned new things like driving a car with the help of her brother-in-law, George and how to be a single working mother. Yet she still made the time to take her daughters on picnics and spend time with her sister Dorothy and her six children. Such as going to the best garage sales, church bazaar's, camping and helping prepare the food for her niece's weddings. I am sure a few of us remember all the Saturday's that Aunt Dorothy and Grandma spent sharing a six pack...of Coca Cola and playing Yahtzee. Grandma was a woman that was devoted to her family, which was most evident when it came to her grandchildren. Instead of taking a trip for herself, grandma spent her vacation days watching over us girls when our parents were out of town. One of the greatest gifts that she received was her son-in-law's offer to move in with them. This gives my sister's and I some of our most precious memories. Grandma had her own special ways, for example, on our numerous car rides to Grand Island she would entertain the four of us by singing and teaching us her favorite sing-a-long songs. These almost weekly trips gave us the opportunity to spend time with family and for her to spoil us rotten. She would spend her Friday nights with us girls eating frozen pizza, playing games and watching The Love Boat, Golden Girls and the Grand Ole Opry. In Grandma's spare time you would find her reading Harlequin novels, working on puzzle books and listening to country music. Grandma cooked for a living, but she enjoyed cooking for her family even more. With mom, she helped prepare holiday meals and canned foods for the family. Mom and Grandma also enjoyed putting puzzles together, shopping, spoiling the great grandchildren and talking for hours. This is what gave them not only the relationship of mother and daughter, but also of best friends. They were always there for one another. Especially through the last nine months when grandma needed her most. Everyone here had a unique and special bond to with Marvel Hoover. To each of us the memories may be slightly different, but a common theme will be grandma's unconditional love, generosity, devotion to family and friends and her unforgettable smile that we will carry with us forever. Daughter of Louis Fredrick & Edith Irene (Humphrey) Wendt. Survivors include: two daughters, Lori McIntire and her husband Stan of Central City and Grace Hoover of Oregon, four grand children: Tracy Kahl and husband Wendel of Van Meter, IA, Stacy Brown and husband Andy of Colorado Springs, CO, Daice Hoover of Central City and Casey McIntire of Wayne, four Great-grandchildren: Brooke and Cody Kahl, and Dakota and Dawson Baker, one sister Paula Wetzel and husband Jack of Boardman, OR and brother-in law George Molczyk of Grand Island. She was preceded in death by a brother Ralph Wendt, sister Dorothy Molczyk and a Great-nephew Joshua Bartlett.
