Charles "Charley" Laudenklos was born to his loving parents Alexander "Alex" and Caroline Leana "Lana" (Schutt) Laudenklos on Wednesday March 28, 1888 at Gresham, York County Nebraska. My research found little information on Charley's childhood or schooling. Charley at the age of fifteen was confirmed at St Paul's Lutheran Church near Gresham. When Charley was seventeen he moved with his mother, sister, and a brother to a place near David City, Butler County. Later the family moved to Octavia, Butler County. Charley was united in marriage to Della Snyder of Edholm, Butler County on Tuesday March 10, 1914, they were blessed over the years of marriage with four daughters and a son. Years later Charley moved Della and their children to North Bend, Dodge County where the family resided. K. R. Newsom knew Charley, Della and their children, Keith's forks were neighbors on East 7th Street. Charley was employed as a mechanic for about two years, then hired on at the Union Pacific Railway as a member of a section crew. On Saturday June 22, 1946 at about eight thirty-five in the morning, Charley and two other section men were traveling eastbound about two mile east of North Bend on a railroad motor car, apparently they did not see or hear the passenger train number 44 closing in behind them nor did the train crew see them until it was too late to avert the accident. Two of the men hardly had time to jump after they became aware that the train was almost upon them, but it appeared that Charley was still aboard the motor car when the train hit. The train stopped and then transported the injured men to the Fremont train depot from where they were taken to Dodge County Community Hospital. Charley was found to have suffered a crushed skull and chest, there was little hoped for his recovery, he never regained consciousness. Charley lived until shortly after four that afternoon. Of the other two men, one did have severe injuries, but did recover, the other man had mirror scratches. Sadly Charley died at the age of 58 years, 2 months, 25 days which does not include his last day, he lived a total of 21,269 days. Charley's funeral services were conducted by Rev. Feyerherm of St. Peter Lutheran Church on Tuesday June 25, 1946 at 2p at the Selihorn Funeral Home. Interment was in section n, block 620, plot 3 in Woodland Cemetery. Charley's information was provided from researching many resources and my memory. This biography was created as an honor to Charley by a family friend Loren R. who himself was a trainman for over thirteen years for a different railroad. I believe all lives matter, even the lives of those who have passed. Many details are still missing from his life, if you have any more details I will be happy to edit the additional information into this biography.
