The 1900 census reported her birth as September 1856 in Austria. A number of family trees have her Maria Ludmilla Kallus, daughter of Johan and Anna Kallus of Fayette County, Texas, born September 15, 1852, in the Czech Republic. (The area of the modern Czech Republic was part of the Austrian empire at the time of Mary's birth.) The 1880 census reports a Mary Kallus, daughter of John and Anna Kallus of Fayette County, Texas, who was reported as 23 at the time of time of the census in June 1900, putting her birth time as late 1856 or early 1857. The place of birth was reported as Moravia, which is part of the modern Czech Republic and was part of the Austrian empire at the time of her birth. If the grave marker is incorrect and the birth date of September 1856 as reported for Mary Prokschl in the 1900 census was correct, this could be a match. While the date of birth given in the 1900 census and the date provided on the marker are occasionally incorrect, the census date is more often incorrect, so no change will be made to the birth year unless more information is forthcoming. Note: Contributor 47029130 has provided a wealth of death certificate information from the Prokschl children indicating that Maria Kallus was their mother. My thanks to her for sharing information and connecting the dots. In 1900, Mary, husband Mathias, and their 8 children were living in the Manda community of eastern Travis County, Texas, about 7 miles northwest of Elgin. There were 3 sons and 5 daughters: son F. Mathias, born May 1884; daughter Mary, born December 1885; daughter Annie; born July 1887; daughter Josie, born June 1891; daughter Julia, born January 1889; son Raimund, born 1893; son Rudolph, born 1895; and daughter Emma, born February 1898. All of the children were reported to have been born in Travis County, Texas. The 1900 census showed Mary had immigrated to America in 1874. Mathias and Mary had been married for 17 years at the time of the 1900 census, June 18-20, 1900.
