Steve Coats (Greenville Herald Banner, Monday, August 5, 2002, A:3) Emory- Steve Coats, 77, of Emory died Saturday in Trinity Mother Frances Health Systems in Tyler. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today in Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with G.D. Phillips and Rev. Billy Smith officiating. Burial in Emory City Cemetery. Mr. Coats was born March 24, 1925, in Rains County; the son of Bud and Jimmie McLeod Coats. He married Geneva Byram on April 23, 1945, in Greenville. Mr. Coats served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He served in the Pacific and was wounded; receiving the Purple Heart and three battle stars. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife of Emory; daughter, Barbara Taylor of Emory; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alex Coats of Emory. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Coats.
