Mollie Dorothy Phelps, 86, of Waco, passed away on her birthday, July 2, 2006, in a local nursing home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 6, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Timothy Vaverek celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 5, at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with visitation to follow Mollie was born in West, Texas, to the late Frank and Mollie (Marek) Veselka. She married Ernest Phelps Sr. on July 18, 1942, and they were married for 50 years. She worked at Woods Manufacturing Company, was a teacher's aid at Elm Mott, and was a volunteer for Caritas. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the S. P. J. S. T. Lodge 66. Mollie will be forever remembered as a caring, good hearted Christian Lady. Her family and God were foremost in her life. Her garden, flowers, canning, bingo and trips to Bossier City came next. She would do anything to help a person and never met a stranger. She loved each grandchild and great-grandchild equally. Mollie spoke Czech fluently and loved to speak of her Czech Heritage, and she also loved Czech music. Memories of her will live on forever in the hearts of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, in 1993; brothers, Frank and Tony Veselka; and a son-in-law, Clark Putman Jr. Survivors include her daughters, Virginia Putman, of Elm Mott, Barbara Ehlers and husband, Eddie, of Riesel, and Shirley Hamrick and husband, Ivan, of Lacy Lakeview; son, Ernest Phelps Jr. and wife, Linda, of Robinson; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances Lednicky, of Lacy Lakeview, and Mathilda Nors, of Lacy Lakeview; many other family members and numerous friends.
