Thanks to contributor #47226369 Esther Manchester ORD — Esther L. Manchester, 73, of Burwell, formerly of Ord died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Bob Rooney will officiate. Private burial will be in Ord City Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Her body was cremated. Memorials are suggested to the family, donor's choice or Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell. Miss Manchester was born April 23, 1928, at her family's farm house near North Loup in the Independent Township of Valley County to Gerald and Ora (Walkup) Manchester. The family lived in the Independent Township in Southern Valley County. She received her elementary education at District 24 School in Sherman County. She graduated from Scotia High School in 1946. She worked in Grand Island, Omaha and Ord as a waitress and homecare giver. For the last 10 years of her employment, she worked in the home of Martina Zulkoski in Ord. She lived at Rolling Hills Terrance in Ord before becoming a resident of Burwell Community Memorial Health Center in 1996. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 7029. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, baking and was a seamstress. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and John Smedra of Ord; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alvin, Kenneth and Keith Manchester, all of Ord; and four sisters, Betty Pesek and Bethene Paider, both of Ord, Evelyn Janicek of Grand Island and Phyllis Kalloff of Arcadia. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Wheeler, and a brother, Lyle Manchester. The Grand Island Independent - Apr 3 2002
