Daughter of Gerald & Ora (Walkup) Manchester. Married to Donald Wheeler on 8-27-1960 at Burwell, NE. From the Grand Island Independent Newspaper: KEARNEY (AP) -- A 70-year-old woman injured when the car she was riding in pulled over so its passengers could take a picture of a monument spanning Interstate 80 has died. Ruth Wheeler, of Burwell, was injured Sept. 13 when the car she was in was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer. Deputy County Attorney Andrew Hoffmeister said Wheeler died Friday. According to the Nebraska Highway Patrol, the car Wheeler was in had slowed down to pull off onto the shoulder so the passengers could take a picture of The Great Platte River Road Archway Monument, which spans I-80. The truck drove over the rear of the car and both vehicles careened into a ditch. Fines have been increased from $10 to $100 for drivers who stop to gawk and take photographs of the arch. The decision to increase the fines was made in August after discussions between the patrol, state Department of Roads and area law enforcement authorities.
