Bio

"Laddie F. Jirovsky, 85 years, of Fremont, NE died Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Fremont Health Medical Center in Fremont, NE. Laddie was born September 28, 1929 on a farm near Cedar Bluffs, NE to James and Mary(Kunasek)Jirovsky. He received his elementary education at District 80 at North Bend, Little Sioux, Iowa and Fremont, NE. He was a graduate of Fremont High School. Laddie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from March 1951 to December 1952, with the 72nd Tank Battalion of the 2nd Division. That Division captured Heartbreak Ridge. He received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. He farmed for 33 years in the Scribner Air Field and moved to Fremont in January of 1982. Laddie also worked for the City of Fremont Parks and Recreation Department from 1982 until he retired September 30, 1994. Laddie married Joan L. Virgl of Colon, NE on November 24, 1956 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo, NE. Laddie was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont, American Legion Post #20 and the Dodge County Humane Society all of Fremont. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #14000. He enjoyed RV's, camping, walking, exercising and was an avid lover of polka music. He was quite a musician. Laddie played the tuba in a polka band in Colon, NE, with his wife, Joan. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan; sisters, Betty Price and Adeline Vyhlidal, both of Fremont; sister-in-law, Elaine Jirovsky of Fremont; 8 nieces and 5 nephews; and a special Godson, Robert "Bobby" Virgl, who lived with them for 8 years and attended Logan View High School. Bobby's parents passed away after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James "Jim" Jirovksy; and sisters, Ann Suda and Mary Vyhlidal. Funeral Mass will be 10 AM, Thursday, June 4, 2015 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. Father David Belt will officiate. Rosary, 7 PM, Wednesday, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation on Wednesday from 4 PM to 8 PM with the family receiving friends from 5 PM to 7 PM all at the funeral home. Visitation on Thursday at church 1hr prior to service. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont with military honors conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #854 and American Legion Post #20 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Patrick's Catholic Church and to the American Heart Association." Moser Memorial Chapel, 2170 N.
