Bio

The funeral for James J. Jirovsky, 80, of Fremont will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. He died Monday, May 26, 2008, at his home. He was born Oct. 1, 1927, in Cedar Bluffs to James and Mary (Kunasek) Jirovsky. He grew up in Cedar Bluffs, Morse Bluff, rural North Bend, Little Sioux, Iowa, Leshara and then Fremont where he graduated from Fremont High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Jan. 3, 1946, to July 8, 1946. He farmed with his brother at the Scribner Air Base for 33 years. He was the owner of Jim's Organ & Repair Service in Fremont since 1981. He was certified by Baldwin Organ Repair and by National Schools in Los Angeles in radio, television and allied electronics. He married Elaine M. Pagels on Sept. 29, 1951, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 200 of Fremont, American Legion Post 20 of Fremont, Second Indianhead Division and the A.A.R.P. Survivors include: his wife; a brother, Laddie (and wife, Joan) Jirovsky of Fremont; three sisters, Mary Vyhlidal, Adeline Vyhlidal and Betty Price, all of Fremont; and a brother-in-law, Warren Pagels of West Point. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ann Suda. The Rev. Leland Foreman of First Baptist Church in Fremont will officiate Thursday's service. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 6-7:30 p.m. today, all at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Fremont with military graveside services conducted by the Fremont Honor Guard of VFW Post 854 and American Legion Post 20. (mosermemorialchapel.com/obituary)
