"Joan “Joanie” L. Jirovsky, 81 years of Fremont, Nebraska died Saturday, July 4, 2015 at her home in Fremont. Joan and her identical twin sister, Jean were born July 31, 1933 on a farm near Colon, Nebraska to Henry and Caroline (Dolezal) Virgl. She attended elementary school at District 26 near Colon. She was a graduate of Wahoo High School and attended Luther College in Wahoo. She taught school (grades K-8) at District 26 at Colon from 1950 to 1956. Joan married Laddie Francis Jirovsky November 24, 1956 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2015. They farmed for twenty seven years at the Scribner Air Field. They moved to Fremont in January 1982 and she began employment in September 1982 with the Marriott Corporation in food service at Midland Lutheran College and worked there for fifteen years. She and her husband were avid walkers and “made” many miles. They loved music, especially polkas. They loved “RVing” in their motor home and camping. They visited almost every state and festival. Joan is survived by sisters, Irene Gonser and twin sister, Jean Keller both of Lincoln; many nieces and nephews; special Godson, Robert (Bobby) Virgil who lived with them for eight years after the death of his parents. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Raymond Virgl and sister, Cecilia Anthony. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 9, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. Father Ron Battiato will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.
