Agnes Ann Chilek Matocha, a longtime resident of Jackson, TN, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015, after a long bout with health complications. Born September 2, 1924, in Hochheim, Texas, Agnes lived a humble yet fruitful 90 years as a dutiful daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Other than her Catholic faith, nothing was more important than spending time with her loving family. She was utterly devoted to her husband of 53 years, BJ Matocha, from the moment they met to her final days. Agnes worked at Jackson High School (JCM) as an assistant librarian for 20 years. She was also active in the Merry Makers group from St. Mary's Catholic Church. Agnes was an avid gardener, and could work wonders in the kitchen as she loved to cook. She adored all of her pets through the years. As a die-hard Texas A&M Aggie, one of her favorite pastimes was setting up multiple TVs in the living room on college football Saturdays so she and her husband wouldn't miss a minute of the action. She is survived and loved by her children, Cathy Matocha Wagner (Bobby), Robert Matocha, Linda Matocha McMillan (Jerry), and Tim Matocha (Rita). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lisa Matocha Giese, Franklin McMillan, Shannon McMillan Jackson, Walker McMillan, Lindsay McMillan, Katie Mansfield, and Jessie Luckey, as well as her nine great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister, O'Tillia Chilek Mudd and a large contingent of nieces and nephews in Texas. Agnes was predeceased by her husband, BJ Matocha (November 1999), and her parents, Fred Chilek and Mary Vinklarek Chilek. Long-distance support from her Texan nieces and nephews helped to sustain Agnes through the years, as her love for her family and home state was an integral part of her character. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, preceded by a Rosary prayer at 10:30 a.m. A bereavement luncheon will be held after Mass for visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to your favorite charity. Published in The Jackson Sun on May 16, 2015
