The Grand Island Independent Thursday, October 25, 2001 Mary Ann McLeod Mary Ann McLeod, 85, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, at the Nebraska Veterans Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the All Faiths Chapel at the Nebraska Veterans Home. The Rev. Jim Schmitt will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Wood River. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the All Faiths Chapel at the Nebraska Veteran's Home. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Veterans Home or her son Darold Szafrajda. Mrs. McLeod was born Sept. 6, 1916, at Ashton to Peter and Frances (Czalewski) Kuffel. She grew up and was educated in Ashton. She married Frank Szafrajda in 1938. The couple lived in the Litchfield area. Her husband died in 1961. She married Norman "Bruce" McLeod on May 30, 1974. The couple lived on a farm south of Shelton. She was a member of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed gardening, listening to polka music, reading, watching TV, going for walks and running a tractor. Survivors include a son of Grand Island; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Kuffel of Grand Island. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Agnes Kuffel, Martha Sonnenfeld and Barbara Hurlbert; and three brothers, Antone, Joe and Frank Kuffel. Contributor: Starlight (47723180)
