Velma Jane Bussell Starrett Funeral services for Velma Jane Bussell Starrett,71, of Yantis will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at First Baptist Church of Yantis with the Rev. Shannon Hassell officiating. Burial will follow at Reilly Springs Cemetery with deacons, Mike Fuller, Mike Smith, Ken Apel, Mat Garrett, Shannon Davis, Ralph Taylor, Warren Attaway, Harold Pitts and Fred Epperley serving as pallbearers under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the funeral home. Mrs. Starrett died at 1:39 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at her residence. She was born on Oct. 16, 1931, in Wood County, to Andrew Elvoy and Velma Caroline Thornhill Bussell. She married Frank Starrett on July 5, 1947, in Dallas. He survives. Mrs. Starrett was a layer operator with Western Electric for 13 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Yantis. Other survivors include two sons, Paul Starrett of Yantis and Kenneth Starrett of Fort Davis; ;three sisters, Lurene Winston, Imajean Allman and Joy Hroback; three brothers, Julius Bussell, Don J. Bussell and Andrew Bussell; grandchildren Samantha Diab, Jessica Starrett, Karley Starrett, Christopher Starrett, Kathy Robinson, Samantha and Kaylyn Williams, Camille Sandel, Lessie Beeman and Kareena Dominguez; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Johnson; and one brother, Clarence Bussell. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Yantis and to First Baptist Youth Fund.
