Though all the family was born in Nebraska, the grandparents came from Bohemia (and there are many Kadavy's in the Bohemian Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska). John started as a farmer, but by 1953, was living in Omaha. He was still working at age 63, but now as a paid laborer. His wife, Frances, kept the home. In 1953,John Joseph was working as a laborer for Swift's meat packing plant in Omaha, Nebraska. Magdalene was working as a wrapper in the Safeway Store. They were 36 years old, and sharing a household with their parents at 4107 S. 28th St. in Omaha, Nebraska. That year, father John A. Kadavy (63) was a laborer at Bradford-Kenney in Omaha. Earlier, in 1920, the family was farming in Richardson Township, Butler County, Nebraska. The 1920 US Census lists: John A.
