AURORA — Earl Dick, 89, of Aurora, passed away Monday, March 16, 2015, at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 20, at Aurora United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ron Harris and Mark Dunham will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. Earl Jim Dick, the son of George and Anna (Penner) Dick, was born on a farm south of Hampton, Neb., on March 23, 1925, and passed away on March 16, 2015, at Aurora, Neb., at the age of 89. He grew up in Hampton, where he attended country schools through the eighth grade. Earl enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served for three years before being honorably discharged in 1946. On Sept. 1, 1946, he was united in marriage to Joy I. Ross at Aurora. On his return from the service he worked at John Deere in Aurora and was a line superintendent at the Army Ammunition Plant in Grand Island. Earl was owner of NuWay Cleaners and Construction from 1972-81, until he retired due to health issues. They raised their great-granddaughter, Faith Gustafson for 6½ years. Earl was proud that he received his GED in 2001. Earl was a service officer for the VFW and DAV and had served on the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, George, Abe, Jake, Herb, John, Ed, Bob and Rich Dick; three sisters Ann Hoffman, Eva Friesen and Marie Hoffmann; and great-granddaughter, Forest Lynn Hughes. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Joy of 68½ years; daughter, Peggy (Rod) Johnson of Lincoln; son, Craig (Natalie) Dick of Aurora; sister, Rose Watson of Aurora; five grandchildren, Robin Nyberg, Shelia Tournor, Ross Dick, Barb Lacher and Josh Dick; 13 great-grandchildren, Faith Gustafson, Kody, Dylan and Chris Mollenberndt, Zach Hughes, Gabby and Kyan Lacher, Heather and Scarlet Dick, Elliot Gough, Kailey, Emmett and Caleb Dick; seven great-great-grandchildren, Lucy and Milo Gustafson, Damien and Adrian Mollenberndt, Jaycee, Kaden and Kodah Hughes and many other family members and friends.
