Herald Coaster, May 18, 1992: Funeral services for Alex W. Demel, 77, of Richmond, were held 2 p.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Father Dan Warden officiated, with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. A rosary service was held 7 p.m. Sunday at Davis Chapel in Rosenberg. Mr. Demel was born June 14, 1914 in High Hill. He died Friday at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital in Richmond. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Emilia Demel; and four brothers, Rudolph Demel, Paul Demel, Alfred Demel, and Norbert Demel. Survivors include his wife, Clara Freis Demel of Richmond; five daughters and their husbands, Jane Elaine and LeRoy Kana of Bastrop, Doris Ann and John Dobias of Brazoria, Carol Kay Matthews of Dallas, Helen Ruth and David Shumaker of Cypress, and Susan Marie and Trey Vaughn of Katy; three sisters, Olga Kasprzik of Columbus, Annie Christ of Rosenberg, and Francis Kahlich of Slaton; a brother, Leo Demel of Columbus; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
