Bio

Hazel was the first born child of Charles Marion and Estella Anna (Stafford) Tarr. She married Elmer Walson Wheeler in Monmouth on 17 October 1919, and to this marriage three daughters were born; Ruth E., Florence C., and Dorothy M. Wheeler. As of the 1930 US census, Hazel was listed in the home of her parents as married and living with her daughters. At the same time, Elmer was listed as married and living with his three daughters in the home of his married sister, Mrs. Ruth (Walter) Johnson. From Hazel's obituary, it appears the couple had divorced prior to her death. Hazel had been ill for 4 weeks, and had been treated for pneumonia for 1 week at Monmouth hospital prior to her death. In addition to her parents and her children, Hazel was survived by four sisters, Mrs. Esther Bonita (Herville P.) Chewning, Estella (m. Earl Beckner in 1933), Helen (m. Ralph Farrington in 1931) and Myra (m. Arnol Payne in 1934) of Monmouth, and four brothers, Charles of Peoria and Theodore, Lawrence and William Tarr of Monmouth. Hazel attended the Ninth Avenue United Presbyterian church. Funeral services were held at the Turnbull funeral home at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning, 10 March 1931, with burial in Glendale cemetery (now a part of Monmouth cemetery). Rev. Loehr was in charge of the service.
