Bio

James Willard Maudlin was born May 27, 1923 near Grant City, MO, to James William and Oresta May Coverdell Maudlin. On Sept. 30, 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served as a Gunner's Mate on an armed Merchant ship during WWI. He was discharged at Lambert Field, St. Louis, MO on Sept. 30, 1946. He was united to Betty Jean Horn on Oct. 30, 1946. Three children were born to this marriage-Shirley, David, and Douglas. He was a member of the United Brethren in Christ c\Church, and later transferred his membership to the Grant City Christian Church. For the past 5 years he was employed by the Grant City Cap Factory, where he was Department Supervisor. He was active in the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Betty, Daughter Shirley (Larrry) Proctor, St. Joe, MO, son David who is presently with the armed forces in Viet Nam, son Doug of the home, daughter in law Patricia, of St. Joseph, two sisters, Mrs. Clida (Frank) Fletchall and Mrs. Doris (Clarence) Burns, three brothers, John (Bessie) of New Market, Iowa, Volney (Myra) of Santa Ana, CA, and Marion (Gisela) of Grant City, and a host of other relatives. Funeral was held at Prugh Dunfee Funeral Home, Grant City, MO January 2, 1971, with Burial in Grant City Cemetery. Willard was a fun loving person. His nephews and nieces adored him. He could pinch with his toes, hoola hoop, run and play like a kid. He was deeply missed by all of his family.
