Bio

Son of William M. Anderson and Martha Elkins. Husband of three wives: Marriage to 1st wife, Fanny Wilson on March 12, 1837; 2nd wife, Margaret Ann Matilda (Dillingham) Kerr on August 31, 1860; "Col. Anderson's 3rd and final wife was Joycey Caroline Wheeler Creasman (usually called Caroline); she is the daughter of Rev. John and Rhodica. Her first husband was Col. William Creasman, 29th NC Inf, who died in 1869. We have been unable to locate Caroline's burial place so far. Wheeler researchers say she died in 1901, but are divided as to whether she died in Buncombe Co. or Yancey Co." Documentation on 3rd wife of Col. Anderson was provided by...Irene Wheeler Merrill Contributor #46854093. He was a Farmer by trade. "When the Civil War became evident, Col. Anderson campaigned for recruits for the Confederate Army and through his efforts many men of Buncombe and Madison counties joined the army, among them was his own son William Anderson, who was one of the first men to be killed in battle from this section. After his son's death, Colonel Anderson volunteered for active service and though a father of 10 children, served from July 23, 1861 until July 16, 1862 in Company K, 25th North Carolina Regiment." He was one of the most notable citizens in the Big Ivy community. He once served as a deputy sheriff, Justice of the Peace, Postmaster of Barnardsville and Colonel in the state militia.
