Henry D. Oates, 66, of Fondulac Woods Health Care Center, East Peoria, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born July 31, 1931, in Pekin to Henry D. and Grace E. Hereford Oates, he married Margaret Calvert on July 25, 1982, in East Peoria. She died Dec. 24, 1990, in Peoria. One brother; his stepfather, Ross Brown; and two stepsisters also preceded him in death. Surviving are his mother, one brother, Donald, and one sister, Barbara Clemons, all of Pekin. He worked at service stations in the Peoria area for many years and for the Pekin street department. He volunteered at Sadie's Cafe in Peoria. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery, Peoria. Full obit in the Peoria Journal Star - Thursday, March 12, 1998.
