YOAKUM - Tommie Vanek, age 84, passed away Friday, November 7, 2014. He was born September 3, 1930 to Louis and Frances Filip Vanek. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 1582. He served in the United States Army and was owner/operator of Yoakum Gin and Feed for over 50 years. He had a love for music and was well known for the Tommie Vanek Orchestra for over 49 years. Survivors are his loving wife of 62 years, Edith Jiral Vanek; daughters, Elaine Vanek McDevitt (John) of Victoria and Brenda Vanek of San Antonio; son, Michael Vanek (Bobbie) of Yoakum; 7 grandchildren, Kalli Cook, Ashley Vanek Broome, Ashana Vanek Salazar, John Thomas McDevitt, Victoria McDevitt, Mikaela Vanek and Mariah Basaldua; 8 great-grandchildren, Alexus Broome, Trenton Broome, Adalyn Broome, Abagail Cook, Hannah Cook, Rebekah Cook, Azreal Salazar and Alese Salazar; sister, Martha Kret of San Antonio; brother, Joe Vanek (Dorothy) of Humble. Preceded in death by parents; 2 sisters, Mildred Kret and Levina Hooks; 2 brothers, Felix Vanek and Edmund Vanek. Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
