YOAKUM - Edith Jiral Vanek , age 88, passed away Monday, September 7, 2015, surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers. She was born August 31, 1927 in Lavaca County to the late Emil Jiral Sr. and Mary Sembera Jiral. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, was a bookkeeper, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was married to her beloved Tommie Vanek for 62 years, until his death on November 7, 2014. Survivors are their daughters, Elaine Vanek McDevitt (John) of Victoria and Brenda Vanek Of San Antonio; son Michael Vanek (Bobbie) of Yoakum; 7 grandchildren, Kallie Cook, Ashley Vanek, Broome, Ashana Vanek Salazar, John Thomas McDevitt, Victoria McDevitt, Mikaela Vanek and Mariah Basaldua; 9 great-grandchildren, Alexus, Trenton and Adalyn Broome, Abagail, Hannah, Rebekah and Sarah Cook, Azreal and Alese Salazar; brother, Emil Jiral Jr., of Huntsville. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tommie Vanek; sister, Lorene Heller. Visitation 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass 11 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Huehlefeld officiating. Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Thiele Cooper Funeral Home, 361-293-5656.
