Esther Eckhardt Jan 8,1917-Nov 4,2014 Esther Eckhardt, 97, of Mitchell, passed away Nov. 4, 2014 at the Residency Care Center in Scottsbluff. A funeral service will be held Nov. 8, at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell. Interment will follow at Mitchell Valley Cemetery south of Mitchell. Esther was born to Adam and Eve(Eckert)Zitterkopf in Harrington, Kansas on Jan. 8, 1917. The family moved to the North Platte Valley where she attended various schools. Esther received her GED later in life.Esther married Conrad Eckhardt Oct. 17, 1942 in Harrisburg.Together they farmed in the Mitchell Valley, retiring in 1972.Esther was employed by several businesses including ABC Nursery, Mitchell Cleaners and Great Western Sugar Company. She loved flowers, gardening, Western movies and was an avid reader and history buff. Conrad and Esther traveled extensively throughout the United States in their motor home.Preceding Esther in death were her parents; husband, Conrad of 63 years; sisters, Elizabeth Fields, Katheryn Haberman, Elsie Dutzer, Alma Wells, and Helen Bott; and brothers, Jack and Albert Zitterkopf.
