Herald Coaster, June June 16, 2002: Funeral services for Sylvester "Butch" Poncik, 76, of Needville will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 17 at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday, June 16 at the Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Needville. Sylvester was born on Dec. 31, 1925 in Needville to Henry Poncik and Frances Wanek. He passed away Friday, June 14, 2002 in Needville. He served with the G 398th Infantry overseas. He received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theater Ribbon, two Bronze Service Stars and a Purple Heart, and he received Honorable Discharge in 1946. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Frances Poncik and his brother, Simon Lee Poncik. Sylvester is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruby Schrader Poncik of Needville; his sister-in-law, Annie Poncik of Bay City; his niece, Sylvia Pietrowski and his nephew, Tony Lee Poncik.
