Fort Bend Herald, February 27, 2015: Ruby Frieda Schrader Poncik, 88, of Needville, passed away Tuesday, February 24th, after a courageous fight with cancer. She was born in Needville to Otto F. and Wanda (Nichter) Schrader on January 16, 1927. Ruby was a rural mail carrier for the Needville area for many years and even as she was being treated for cancer she was still faithful in her duties at work. She always said that work took her mind off her troubles. She was a constant companion with her beloved husband, Butch, and was his right hand at everything they did from raising cows to gardening. Anyone that knew Ruby, knew that she loved quilting and enjoyed cutting, sewing and hand quilting. She was always serving others by sewing lap robes and bibs for the nursing homes, putting quilts together for those in need, and always giving away her prize winning and delicious citrus fruit to anyone who came to the house and showed an interest. Ruby never met a stranger. She was a kind and loving person to each and everyone she met. She was strong in her faith, a lifetime member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville, and always felt the loving arms of her Lord and Savior surround her even in her most difficult days. She read her Bible and devotional daily as the worn pages and binding of her Bible was a testament of her constant use. She touched many lives and she will be greatly missed. Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Walter Schrader and his wife Ruth, and brother-in-law Simon Lee Poncik. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Annie Poncik, niece Sylvia Pietrowski and husband Andy, nephew Tony Poncik, and special friends, David and Liz Gerstenberger. She is also survived by several cousins, great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Delbert Wendt, David Gerstenberger, Andy Pietrowski, Dickie Hurta, Bud Hurta and Mike Hundl. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Friday, February 27th at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg. Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 28th at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville with burial following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Dr. Tom Schwartz will officiate. For those wishing, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville or the American Cancer Society.
