*Note regarding Bert's name. According to the CDI (CA. Death Index), his full name was Albert (not Bertram) Calvin Webster. Bert's parents were: Joseph Webster, b. Apr. 24, 1843 in Manchester, Metropolitan Borough of Manchester, Greater Manchester, England and d. Oct. 4, 1921 in San Bernardino, San Bernardino County, CA. & Mary Melvina Rabel, b. Jul. 30, 1850 in Fort Laramie, Goshen County, WY. and d. Mar. 29, 1925 in San Bernardino, San Bernardino County, CA. In the 1900 U. S. census, 15 yr. old Calvin Webster, b. Mar 1885 in CA., was attending school and living in Redlands, San Bernardino county, CA. with his 58 yr. old father, Joseph Webster, a Farmer, b. Apr. 1842 in England 49 yr. old mother, Mary Webster, b. Jul. 1850 in WY. territory 32 yr. old unmarried sister, Lizie Webster, a Schoolteacher, b. Jan. 1868 in CA. 21 yr. old unmarried sister, Lillian Webster, a Schoolteacher, b. Jul. 1878 in CA. 19 yr. old brother, Raymond Webster, attending school, b. Nov. 1880 in CA. 17 yr. old brother, Clayton G Webster, attending school, b. Jan. 1883 in CA. 10 yr. old sister, Mabel Webster, attending school, b. Feb. 1890 in CA. Joseph immigrated to the U. S. in 1849 and was now a naturalized citizen. Joseph's parents were both b. in England. Mary's father was b. in Germany and her mother in TN. Mary was the mother of 11 children, only 10 still alive by this census. According to his WWI Soldier Service card, 34 yr. old Bert Calvin Webster, a carpenter, was born in 1885 in San Bernardino (*county, I assume). His parents were: Joseph Webster, b. in Manchester, England and Mary M. Rabel, b. in Fort Laramie, WY. On Sep. 8, 1913, he was married to Edith Morrison. They had one boy, Jack. On Jul. 22, 1918, Bert enlisted at his local board, San Bernardino #1, and was sent to Camp Custer, Mich., to work with Ordnance. Attached to his card was this note: "After finishing the work of ninth grade grammar school, Mr. Webster attended the Southern Cal. Business College, Los Angeles. He then engaged in agriculture for several years before taking up the occupation of carpenter. As a carpenter, some time was spent in San Francisco, San Diego as well as San B'd'no." Signed, M Lillian Clyde and dated Mar. 29, 1919, Highland, CA. According to his Apr. 27, 1942 WWII Draft Registration card, 57 yr. old Bert Calvin Webster, b. Mar. 11, 1885 in Highland, San Bernardino county, CA., was living at 1384 Arrowhead Ave. in San Bernardino, San Bernardino county, CA. with Lillian Clyde. He was unemployed. Bert was described as 6' tall, weighing 165 lbs., with blue-gray eyes, gray hair, a ruddy complexion and no other obvious physical characteristic that would aid in identification. Redlands Daily Facts (Redlands, CA.), P. 5, Col. 3 Tue., Jun. 27, 1961 Bert Webster, Oak Glen Pioneer, Dies Bert Calvin Webster one of the last surviving members of a pioneer Oak Glen family, died yesterday in Yucaipa at the age of 76. Mr. Webster was the son of Joseph and Mary Webster who settled in Oak Glen in the early 1850's. He was born in Oak Glen in 1885 and lived his entire life in Oak Glen and Yucaipa. At the time of his death, he was living at 35164 Acacia street in Yucaipa but for many years was a member of the forest service in the Oak Glen district. He served in WWI and was a member of the Yucaipa American Legion Post. Of the 11 children in this pioneer family, Mr. Webster was the last surviving son. Only one sister, Mrs. R. Lillian Clyde of San Bernardino, survives. He is, however, survived by his own son, Jack H. Webster, now of Creston, Calif., but for many years a Yucaipa resident. There are also two grandchildren. A number of nieces and nephews reside in the Yucaipa, San Bernardino and Riverside areas. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 30, 2 p.m. at Emmerson's Yucaipa Mortuary chapel. Rev. George Jenkins, pastor of the Pilgrim Pines Congregational church, will officiate. Interment will be in Montecito Memorial Park.
