Son of Thomas B. O'Brien & Ellen Dillon, husband of Sarah "Sadie" Colgan, m. Feb 12, 1901 in Camp Grove. Obituary Life, after all, is a mystery. It is with deep regret that we are called to chronicle the visitation at the cold hand of Death into our midst taking with it one who was ever near and dear to us. At 1:00 o’clock pm Thursday Feb. 24th, the immortal soul of Daniel Patrick O’Brien passed peacefully out of this life to join its Redeemer for all eternity in the sweet realms of heaven. His sun went down while it was yet day. Dan was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas O’Brien. He was born in Marshall County, Feb. 19, 1868, and he has always lived in this immediate vicinity where he grew to manhood. Having received his early education in the district schools, he afterwards completed a collegiate course at Kankakee. On Feb. 12, 1901, he was united in marriage to Sarah F. Colgan. Four years ago he purchased a farm one-half mile east of Camp Grove where , with all the comforts and the prospects of a bright, future awaiting them, they lived happily blessed with four little children, Evelyn, Lenora, Arthur and Lawrence, all of whom survive and who will keenly feel the loss of that cherished love and kindness of an affectionate father and husband. It may be said that Dan’s enemies were few, if any. He was always possessed with that same cheerful disposition; honest, upright and true to his associates and fellowmen. His illness was of short duration having been confined to his bed only one week. Death was due to blood-poisoning but its origin may never be known. Realising his hours in this life ere numbered and being possessed with that true Christian spirit of the Catholic faith he made his peace with God. Being conscious to the last he settled all worldly affairs, made requests for his funeral, then called to his bedside the family, father, and mother, brothers and sisters, to bid them all a last fond farewell, all of whom were present when he breathed his last excepting a brother, Thomas, life being extinct before he arrived from Rochester, NY. He leaves to mourn his untimely death a wife and four children; a father and mother; six brothers, Charles, James, John, Michael Patrick, Thomas, and two sisters, Aileen and Hannah. The funeral was held at 10:30 Saturday at the church. Solemn requiem high mass was sung by Rev. JE Roach, celebrant, Father Dooling of Henry, deacon and Father Kennedy of Wyoming, subdeacon. A number of the choir of St. John’s Church of Bradford assisted in the singing. A large concourse of neighbors and friends followed the remains to the last resting place in St. Patrick’s cemetery.
