Bio
Ernest Joseph was the son of John Herbert and Helena Pauline (Herden) Johnson. John and Helena would divorce, and Helena married Richard Donald Hayes in 1911. Richard unofficially "adopted" Helena's children, Ernest "Ernie", Frederick "Fred", Gertrude "Gert" and Charles "Bud", as they all took the last name of Hayes. Richard and Helena had 4 children; Richard Jr, Caroline, John and James. Ernest married Ruth Winifred Keller in 1925. They had 3 children: Thomas Joseph, John "Jack" Keller, and Bernice "Bea" Anne. At the time of his death, Ernest was retired from the Dept. of Agriculture. Living at 964 N. Harrison St., Arlington, Virginia. HAYES, ERNEST J On Friday, January 20, at Arlington Hospital, ERNEST J. HAYES of 964 North Harrison st., Arlington, Va., beloved husband of Ruth W. Hayes; father of Thomas J. Hayes of New Jersey, John K. Hayes of Alexandria, and Mrs. Harry Pierce of Vienna, Va. Also survived by six brothers and sisters, all of Minneapolis, Minn., and 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends may call at the Falls Church Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad st., Falls Church, Va., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, January 22, where there will be a recitation of the Rosary at 8 p.m., Sunday, January 22. Requiem Mass will be offered on Monday, January 23, at 10 a.m. at St Ann's Catholic Church, Arlington, Va. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Fairfax, Va.
