Bio

Thomas Joseph Hayes of Fairfield died at Bridgeport Hosp. He had been a Fairfield resident for 19 years. He served in the United States Army Air Corps at the end of World War II. Mr. Hayes was an Engineering Manager for the Shell Oil Co. He was a project manager for a pilot program involving coal gasification which is now being touted as an important alternate energy source. Following his retirement he worked part-time for the Fairfield County Real Estate and Fairfield County Mortgage Companies. Survivors include his beloved wife, Jean Berardesca Hayes, and their children Vincent and Victoria Hayes of Fairfield; six children from a previous marriage, Judith Clark, Thomas Hayes, M.D., Becky Hayes Polk, David T. Hayes, M.D., Melissa Converse and Laura Gore; 13 grandchildren; a brother, John (Jack) Hayes; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sons, Patrick, Paul and Matthew Hayes. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Pius X Church, Fairfield.
