Edward Stephen "Ed" Wertish was born on 08 December 1914, in Henryville Township, Renville County, Minnesota, to Joseph and Anna (Trochlil) Wertish. He attended rural School District #59, and worked in the Bechyn area. Ed married Marie Angela Goblish on 13 September 1938, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn, Minnesota. Ed and Marie lived and farmed near Bechyn and later moved south of Danube, Minnesota. They had milk cows for many years and after farming for 50 years, they retired and moved to Olivia. Ed loved to go to auctions and play cards with his grandchildren; and, Ed and Marie played cards and games almost every evening. Ed was a collector . . . of pens, pencils, cans, wrenches and toy tractors. He had a garden and grew rows and rows of potatoes; and, he loved digging the potatoes. Ed loved lemon meringue pie, chicken feet, and potatoes. He was fond of exclaiming, "It's nice when they all come home; but, it's also nice when they all leave. Ed and Marie had six children, two sons, Joseph "Joe," and Edward H. "Eddy"; and, four daughters, Dorothy (Borth), Rose Anne (Lee), Linda (Sorenson), and Mary (Enestvedt). Edward Stephen Wertish died, at age 88, on Tuesday, 02 January 2003, at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville County, Minnesota. His funeral service was held on Monday, 06 January, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia; the Reverent Paul van de Crommert officiated.
