Andrew John Beseda, age 80 of Rt. 1, Penelope, passed away Sunday morning, February 6, 2000, in the VA Hospital in Temple. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday in Kotch Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Catholic Church of the Nativity, B.V.M. in Penelope, with the Rev. Ron Sheible, O.S.A. and Fr. Ed Karasek, co-officiating. A special eulogy from the family was given by the Rev. Henry Beseda. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Penelope, with Military Graveside rites conducted by V.F.W. Post #4819 of West. Mr. Beseda was born June 10, 1919 in Penelope to Annie Urbish Beseda and Ben Beseda. He attended the Griffin County School, south of Penelope. He lived his entire life in Penelope-Hill County. He married Frances Mattie Kocian and they were married for over 59 years. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Philippine Islands and in Japan. He served on the Penelope ISD school board for nine years. He served the Penelope B.V.M. Catholic Church parish council for many years. He was a member of the VFW Post #4819 of West, a member of the KJT Lodge #50 of Penelope, and a member of the SPJST Lodge #6 in Cottonwood. He was a farmer and rancher all of his life. Mr. Beseda is survived by his wife, Frances, his children, Lonnie Beseda and his wife, Cynthia of East Bernard, Gary Beseda and his wife, Jeanette of Penelope, Bobby Beseda and his wife, Frances of Kosse and Barbara Kostecka and her husband, Michael of West; two brothers Raymond Beseda of Penelope and Ben Beseda of West; one sister Irene Lenart of Penelope; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
