Fred Skala, 47, Dies in Mishap on county Road Funeral services were held Monday afternoon here for Fred B. Skala, a 47 year-old Ord man killed instantly Friday in a highway accident. Reverend Dale Scheffler officiated at the services held from the Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Ord cemetery under the direction of the Hastings-Pearson Mortuary. Mr. Skala was born May 2, 1912 and grew to manhood in Vinton township. He was engaged in farming until he moved to Ord in 1947. He was employed by Ord Service Oil and the Mid-State Building Service prior to accepting a job with the road department of Valley county. He married Minnie Nevrivy December 25, 1940 at Burwell. Survivors include the widow; one daughter Carolyn, five brothers Edward of Greeley, William of St. Paul, James and Rudolph of Cozad and Jerry of Ord; three sisters, Mrs. Rosie Penas of Ord, Mrs. Lillian Zadina of Wilbur, Mrs. Marian Penas of Grand Island; his mother, Mrs. Tracy Skala of Ord and many other relatives.
