Gertrude Fern Ward 1926 ~ 2014 Gertrude "Fern" Ward, 87, of Meridian, passed away on July 27, 2014. Fern was raised on a farm in Nebraska and became a Meridian resident in 1957, with her husband and three children. She worked for many years as a cook for the Meridian School District and the Veterans Home. After early retirement, Fern and husband Bill, enjoyed camping and fishing, family, and keeping up the best lawn in the neighborhood. Fern was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill " Ward; daughter, Wanda Shearer of Boise; sister, Lois Kershner of Nebraska; granddaughters, Bryana Turner of Boise and Candy Roberts of Rantoul, Illinois; great-grandson, Alex Faulkner of Illinois. She is survived by son, Kenneth Ward (Vienna) of Caldwell; daughter, Marcia Roberts (Gregg) of Rantoul Illinois; son-in-law, Donald Shearer of Meridian; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great great-grandsons; two sisters, Nina Pickrel and Alice Butt of Nebraska. Fern requested there be no viewing or services. There will be a celebration of life in her home sometime in September with family and friends. Published in Idaho Statesman on July 30, 2014
