CENTRAL CITY — Nina Ann (Wagner) Pickrel, 83, of Central City passed Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Central City, with the Revs. Tim Johnson and Tess Hufford officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Wagner Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of the arrangements. Nina Pickrel was born April 19, 1931, in Central City to Clause Harry and Anna B. (Holz) Wagner. She grew up in the Central City and Archer area. She graduated from Central City High School in 1948 and continued her education at Central Nebraska College. She was united in marriage to William B. “Bill” Pickrel on June 10, 1951, in Archer. The couple lived near Clarks on a farm and then moved into Clarks in 1955. She stayed busy being a homemaker and raising her family. Nina moved to Central City in 2009. Nina was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clarks for 58 years. She was a member of Clarks School Board and served as treasurer, as well as Town and Country Craft Club in Clarks. She was also head of the Cemetery Board. She called square dancing and also drove handicapped children to Grand Island. She was always active in the school and community, and anything her family was involved in. Survivors include her five sons and four daughters-in-law, Don and Darlene Pickrel of Columbus, Alan and Deb Pickrel of Columbus, Scott Pickrel of Clarks, Tom and Lynn Pickrel of Urbandale, Iowa, and Larry and Deb Pickrel of Lincoln; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Karen Schank of Central City, Jeanne and Jeff Fritz of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Marcy and Norman Starks of Omaha; 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Butt of Central City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Nina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Pickrel; two sisters, Fern Ward and Lois Kirschner; and two grandsons, Jared Sprenger and Andrew Pickrel.
