The Schuyler Sun (Schuyler, Nebraska) 11 Feb 1943, page 5 JOHN PELTER John Pelter, 55, former resident of Colfax county and of Schuyler, died at St. Mary's hospital in Long Beach, Calif., Tuesday, Feb 2, according to word received by relatives here. Mr. Pelter was born near Rocky Mount, Va., June 26, 1887. In October, 1892, he came to Nebraska with his parents, Thomas J. and Anne Elizabeth Childress Pelter, and other members of the family. The family settled on a farm in Colfax county in the vicinty (sic) of Grandview. It was here that Mr. Pelter grew to manhood. Mr. Pelter was at one time a railway mail clerk on the Union Pacific. After leaving the mail service, he proved up on a claim near Douglas, Wyo. he was also employed in the oil fields near Douglas. About five years ago, he went to California to reside. He was unmarried. The folloming (sic) brothers and sisters survive: Henry D. of Omaha, Walter H. of Anaheim, Calif., Willis C. of Richland, Mrs. Howard C. Barker of Santa Cruz, Calif., Mrs Adam Schmid, Mrs Frank W. Shonka Jr. , both of Columbus, and Miss Nellie Pelter of Watsonville, Cilaf (sic). Funeral services and burial took place at Long Beach.
