Bio

Elmer William Zabka, son of Joseph and Edith Zabka, deceased, of Loretto, was born in Box Butte county, Nebraska, December 24, 1891 and departed this life October 17 at the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 57 years and ten months. He and his parents lived in Colfax county Nebraska and later moved to the Akron community where they attended the Presbyterian church. He enlisted in the service of his country June 26, 1918 and was stationed at Camp Funston, Kan., where he received his honorable discharge February 26, 1919. After his discharge he joined the American Legion Manderson Lehr Post No. 162 of Albion, Nebr. Elmer chose farming as his occupation and for the past eight years he was employed by Grant Olson of Loretto until one year ago when his health became bad. At this time he entered the Veterans hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska where he under went surgery. Left to mourn his passing are three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Moore of Omaha, Capitola of Connecticut and Mrs. Clint Waller of Columbus; two sons Joseph of Columbus and William Zabka of Albion; also three grandchildren two brothers, George of Albion and Charles of St. Edward. one sister Mrs. Mae Tranda of Omaha and his step-mother, Mrs. Martha Zabka of Spalding besides many other relatives and friends. Military funeral services were held Thursday October 20 with the American Lebion Post of Albion taking part. Services were held at Smith's funeral home at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Nixon Knight officiating. Interment was made at Rose Hill cemetery.
