DON WALSTON ADA-Services for Don Eugene Walston, 77, of Ada, are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Revs. Bill Sluder and Raymond Brady will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home. Mr. Walston died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at a local hospital. He was born July 10, 1936 in Sasakwa, Oklahoma to Bud and Veta Sanders Walston. He lived in this area all his life. He graduated from Ada High School in 1954. He married Betty McDaniel on June 1, 1957 in Ahloso. Mr. Walston retired from Ideal Cement Company and had been previously employed at Motor Sales. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1956 until being honorably discharged in 1960. He attended college on the G. I. Bill and graduated from East Central University in 1975 with a Master's degree in Sociology. Mr. Walston was a longtime member of College Heights Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon on February 25, 2001. He taught Adult Sunday School and also served as the church treasurer. He was a bowling member since 1956, and served as the secretary for the Ada Bowling Association for 20 years. After the age of 60, he bowled 2 perfect games. He was an avid golfer and in 1998, at the age of 62, shot a hole-in-one. Survivors include his wife, Betty Walston, of the home; a son, Randy Walston and his wife Tanya of Ft. Worth, TX; a daughter, Kelly Vaughn and her husband Keith of Ada; his grandchildren, Tisha Killian, Ada, Sari Wells and Josh Jennings of Davis, Randi Lynn Smith, Ft. Worth, TX, and Ethan Walston, Granbury, TX; his great grandchildren, Landyn, Brooklynn, Liberti and Kenidi Smith of Ft. Worth, TX, and Jax Jennings of Davis; his sisters, Juanita Bingham of Oklahoma City, and Venita Holbrook and husband Mickey of Garland, TX; two brothers, Bill Walston and wife JoAnn of Atoka and Jerry Walston and wife RozAn of Ada; and many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Veta Walston, and his brothers, Kenny Walston and Kenneth Walston. Bearers will be Roger Strong, Evert Wall, Nick Cheaper, Glen Jones, Bill Hagar, and Maurice Brashear. Honorary bearers will be Bill Osborn, Gene Standridge, Hugh Brashear, Gene Thomas, Doug Yarbough, and Dr. Joe Troska.
