Bio
Edgar was born in 1869 in Paris, Idaho, which is in the Bear Lake Valley. He was the fifth child of William Henry Shirley and Esther Maria Bubb Shirley. Edgar, along with three of his brothers (George, William and John) all died in infancy. The Utah Death Register recorded that Edgar died of "inflamed bowels." He was 2 years old. The death register also recorded his burial plot numbers which indicate he is buried near his two brothers, Willam and John who also died as children. All three of their graves, located in the Salt Lake City Cemetery, are unmarked. In 1855, his parents were baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1859, his parents and older brother Thomas boarded the ship "Alacrity" and emigrated to the United States from South Africa. As Mormon pioneers, his family settled in the Salt Lake Valley area of Utah and eventually the Bear Lake Valley in Idaho. Only three of his brothers (Thomas, Charles and James) lived to adulthood.
