AURORA — Leola Ott, 87, of Aurora passed away Monday, May 12, 2014, at Hamilton Manor. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 16, at First Christian Church in Aurora. The Rev. Lonnie Ott and Pastor Bruce Bradley will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.. Leola Mable Ott, the daughter of Hans Jacob and Mary Karen (Petersen) Fredericksen, was born in Giltner, Neb., on March 5, 1927, and passed away in Aurora, Neb., on May 12, 2014, at the age of 87. Leola was baptized on Nov. 8, 1944, at Grand Island, Neb., by Pastor D. Franklin Kohl. She attended School District No. 98, Hamilton County, Neb., and Giltner Public Schools. Leola graduated in 1944 from Giltner High School. Following high school graduation, Leola taught two years at Fairview School District 66 country school in Hamilton County. On April 28, 1945, Leola married Marvin Elroy Ott at Belleville, Kan. They were blessed by God with three children, Terry, Marva and Lonnie. Marvin and Leola lived on a farm near Aurora. They moved to a home west of Giltner, where they farmed until Leola's dad's health became worse and they moved to her parents' farm south of Giltner. In 1957, they sold the family farm and moved to Aurora, where Leola worked at the Aurora Hospital located across the street from the Train Depot. She worked at South Side Grocery, later becoming a telephone operator in Aurora until her retirement. Marvin passed away on Aug. 6, 2007. Leola enjoyed knitting, crocheting and playing cards. They belonged to a card club, which she enjoyed very much, especially visiting with all her friends. She also enjoyed going to sporting events to watch her kids play and many school functions they were involved in. Leola cherished being with her family and grandchildren and having them all in her home when she could. She also enjoyed the Frederiksen and Ott family reunions very much. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; a daughter, Marva Lee; a great-granddaughter, Anjela Martinez; twin sisters, Diamond Pearl and Ruby Emerald; her parents, Hans and Mary Frederiksen; sisters, Stella and Leila; and brothers, Ellis, Guy, Alvin and Dale. Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Terry (Linda) Ott of Aurora and Lonnie (Barbara) Ott of Okeene, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Deb (Cody) Quick, Teresa Crawford, Kim Wessels, Kasey (Janna) Wessels, all of Aurora, Jeff Ott of Grand Island, Nikkol Martinez of Hastings and Tim Ott of Yukon, Okla.; 24 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
