Bio

Arthur Allen MOORE Sr. was born on June 14, 1888 to Thomas Jefferson MOORE & Mary Lou "Molly" BILES MOORE. He married Anna Florence WRIGHT on February 12, 1922 in Checotah, McIntosh County, Oklahoma. After arriving in Bakersfield in the late 1930's he owned several butcher/meat concessions known as Art's Meat Markets...owned by Arthur Allen Moore Sr...inside three different markets: Spic-N-Span Market, 2425 Alta Vista Drive; Kern Ranch Market #1 - 1131 Flower Street; and Mitchel's Market at 610 Union Avenue. He was also an active member of the Elks Lodge all his adult life. He went by the name "Art" and is always seen as a classy dresser with a big smile in all his photos. He died as a result of tuberculosis at the tuberculosis hosptial: Stony Brook Retreat in Keene, CA. At the time of his death he was survived by his two children, Arthur Allen MOORE Jr. of Bakersfield, CA and Carol Jeanne MOORE CLAYTON of Oklahoma City, OK. (Jeanne Francis WEBB ARMSTRONG was a step-daughter) All five grandchildren were born after his death: Arthur "Art" Allen MOORE III; Norma Louise MOORE; Carolyn Sue CLAYTON; Serena Ann CLAYTON; Cynthia Jeanne CLAYTON.
