Bio

According to the 1880 census he was 44 years old, born Bohemia, worked in a brick yard, and lived in David City, Nebr. with his wife, five children, and brother John, age 39, born Bohemia, who worked as a laborer. In 1885 he was 50 years old, born Bohemia, a laborer, and lived at 12 South 15th street in Omaha, Nebr. with his wife, five children, and brother John, 46, born Bohemia, also a laborer. In 1900 he was born November 1843 in Bohemia, emigrated to the United States in 1870, a laborer, married 36 years, and lived at 275 South 20th street in South Omaha, Nebr. with his wife, daughter, and son Frank and his wife and children. His burial card states he died of cancer of the stomach on July 5, 1906 and was buried July 7 following services at Assumption Catholic Church. Another pioneer of this city went to the great beyond yesterday in the person of Joseph Vavra, for many years a well known and highly respected Bohemian pioneer, and father of a large family of grown children. His wife preceded him about a year ago. Mr. Vavra came to Nebraska in an early day, and was quite successful in accumulating a snug competency. He was well known, and was a member of several secret societies, some of which will participate in his funeral services. The services will be held Saturday morning at 8:30 from the Bohemian Catholic church to the St. Mary's cemetery.
