Bio

James Owen Phillips was born 4 November 1878 in Apison, Tennesee the 4th of 10 children born to William Theador Phillips and Cynthia Rogers Phillips. Siblings: Walter H. Phillips (1868 - 1946), Oscar Phillips (1871 - 1943), Hennegar Phillips (1874), Robert W. Phillips (1881), William Phillips (1883), Ethel E. Phillips (1885), Julia M. Phillips (1888) and Roxie Ellen Phillips (1890 - 1969). On 21 November 1903, he married Floda Weatherly Blackburn in Tennessee. They were the parents of a daughter Martha Adelle Phillips and a son Paul W. Phillips. Floda died in December of 1905 and James later remarried Purnie Pope around 1908. They were the parents of 2 children: Sarah Kidd Phillips and James Owen Phillips Jr. He died in Morristown, Hamblin, Tennessee on 18 December 1939 and was buried in the Emma Jarnigan Cemetery.
