Bio

Marie Prochazka was born in 1865 in Bohemia. She came to America in 1889 and settled in Colfax County, Nebraska. Marie married Michael Bartes in Nebraska. In 1913, they moved to Minnesota and purchased the Garity farm, which was located eight miles South of Olivia. In 1917, they moved back to Nebraska where Mary died on 13 April 1922, in Schuyler, Nebraska, from stomach cancer. Marie was survived by her husband and four children, Frank Bartes and Mrs. Julius Kudera of Nebraska, and John Charles (Rose) Bartes and Julia (Adolph) Serbus of Renville County, Minesota. Marie was brought back to Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota, where she was buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery on 15 April 1922. Father Jiracek conducted Marie's funeral service.
