John Charles Bartes was born on 14 December 1892 to Mary Prochazka and Mike Bartes. John married Rose M. Swoboda on 27 November 1917, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota. Rose was the daughter of Rose Malecek and John G. Swoboda. John and Rose lived their married life on a farm near Bechyn, Minnesota. They had one son, Bernard, and a daughter, Rosella (Kodet). John Charles Bartes died on 25 July 1959 in Renville County, Minnesota. He was buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota.
