Bio

Daughter of Stanley & Katherine (Placek) Zoucha. Grew up on a farm with nine brothers and three sisters; attended school there. Moved with family to Ravenna, 1925 Married: Oct. 27, 1928, to Sherman Stickney in Julesburg, Colo. He preceded her in death. With husband, worked and lived in Big Springs, Spokane, Wash., Priest River, Idaho, and Ravenna; bought a farm on the Loup River near Poole, 1936; lived there until retiring in 1973; was a hard-working farm wife and all-around good neighbor. Activities: member of the Methodist Church and the Eastern Star; enjoyed bowling and square dancing with friends On July 18, 1950, her only child, Ruby Jeanne, along with Ruby's husband, Bill Pokorney, and two sons were killed in an auto accident. Nellie and her husband then raised the two surviving boys. Survivors include: brother, Carl Zoucha of Grand Island, Neb.; sisters, Stella Forney of Arvada, Colo., and Sylvia Scott of Hillsboro; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; also grandsons, David Pokorney and wife, Kathy, of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Daniel Pokorney of La Grande; and many nieces and nephews. Was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter and son-in-law, Bill Pokorney; grandsons, Thomas and William Jr.; granddaughter-in-law, Linda Pokorney; her parents; eight brothers; and a sister.
