(Published in Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 24, 2013) Ludvik B. "Lewis" Sykora, 87, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Monday in Family Life Church, 3900 S.W. 58th St., with Pastor Dale Travis officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Lewis was born Sept. 20, 1926, in West to Ludvik Sykora and Annie Bezdek. Lewis grew up working on the farm that he lived on with his family. This farm experience led Lewis to his lifelong career of truck driving. He began driving semi-trucks at age 18 and concluded his 60 year career at age 78. Lewis married his wife, Gayle Campbell, on April 11, 1968. Truck driving is a passion they shared. They drove semi-trucks along side each other for a number of years. During his free time, one of his favorite activities was watching Dallas Cowboys play some football. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ludvik Sykora and Annie Bezdek; a sister, Judy Morin ; and his wife, Gayle Sykora. Survivors include a son, Michael Sykora and wife Crystol, and four granddaughters, Addison Sykora, Camrye Caylor, Selika Caylor, and Asya Lucero, all of Amarillo.
