(Published in Amarillo Globe-News, March 28, 2008) Gayle Sykora, 68, of Amarillo died Wednesday, March 26, 2008. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Family Life Fellowship Church with Dale Travis, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mrs. Sykora was born Gayle Marie Campbell on April 9, 1939, in Beaver, Okla. She grew up in Beaver and was the daughter of County Sheriff Bud Campbell and his wife, Elsie. She married Ludvik Sykora on April 11, 1968, in Amarillo. She was a homemaker and also worked at Montgomery Ward and Wal-Mart for a time. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed the outdoors and making crafts. She loved making others laugh and had a great sense of humor. She also opened her home to many foster children. Mrs. Sykora had been a resident of Amarillo for 44 years at the time of her death. Gayle was a member of Family Life Fellowship Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Willard Campbell; a sister, Louise Taylor; and two grandsons, Mark E. Caylor Jr. and Joshua R. McIntire. Survivors include her husband, Ludvik Sykora; two daughters, Linda Smith and husband Ed of Canyon and Jimmie Sue McIntire and husband Jimmy of Canyon; two sons, Terry Clois Morgan of Hereford and Michael Sykora and wife Crystol of Amarillo; two brothers, Benton C. Campbell of Amarillo and James T. Campbell and wife Barbara of Astoria, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
