Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent Saturday, January 15, 1944 Greeley, Neb., Jan. 15. (Special)--Harold Joseph Stephens, 22 year-old Greeley youth, died at St. Joseph's hospital in Omaha at 10 o'clock Tuesday night. At his bedside were his wife (Rosemary nee Gray) and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Stephens. The youth entered St. Francis hospital in Grand Island on Dec. 26. He was released from the hospital a week later when his condition appeared to be improved. The following day he became critically ill and was rushed to a Omaha hospital where he immediately underwent surgery for the removal of a blood clot on the brain. Following the operation, his condition was slightly improved. The young man took a turn for the worse Monday and submitted to a second operation Tuesday. He failed to rally after two blood transfusions were administered. Surviving, besides his wife and parents, are three sisters and three brothers. They are Rosella, Margaret Mary, Helen, Ray, and Donald Lyle, all at home. Funeral services were held Friday at Sacred Heart church here. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
